About Ruya

Ru'ya was established in 2001 as a not for profit, non governmental organisation. Motivated by the desire of a select group of Nuba women to raise the status and contribution of women in the region, Ru'ya has remained faithful to its original vision; to protect human rights through accountability, access to justice and good governance and to advocate for women rights and the engagement of women and young people in democracy and community building processes. Previously, women have been at the periphery of education, development processes and peace building. Ru-ya Association endeavors therefore, to raise the status of women in society and harness their talents in order to become agents of change in their communities and central to development processes.

Ru'ya's work is based around five key areas, at least one of which all our projects must focus on:

  • Security
  • Peace Building
  • Economic Empowerment
  • Human Rights
  • Capacity Building
