Women in the Horn of Africa

In the next few days we will be posting articles and interviews with refugees from South Kordofan who were forced to flee to South Sudan. Our staff are currently in Juba and Yida refugge camp, laying the groundwork for the implementation for new projects. We're very excited to be working again and will keep you updated regularly on our progress!

In the meantime, we would like to highlight the plight of women not just in South Kordofan but across the Horn of Africa. Our partner organisation, the Strategic Initiative for Women in the Horn of Africa (SIHA) Network published an article in the East African newspaper in December 2011, highlighting the immensely worrying levels of sexual violence against women in the Horn; find the article on their website here  http://www.sihanet.org/index.php/news-and-events/97-sexual-violence-against-women-in-the-horn-of-africa

Also, Ruya is aware that in the coming weeks the peace building website  http://hopehorn.org/ will be publishing a series of articles which look at the history of the women's peace movement in the Horn of Africa. Have a look at their website, which aims to create dialogue amongst academics, civil society organisations and interested individuals across the Horn.
